“There is no greater gift you can give or receive than to honour your calling. It’s why you were born. And how you become most truly alive.” – Oprah Winfrey
Often times we come across a statement or question that is so blunt and confusing, so much that we end up seeing ourselves as failures, or disappointed. And this statement is; What is your WHY?? Picture this, Why am I doing what I am doing now, Why am I so passionate about this, or Why am I asking myself this question?
Your WHY is the most important first step in figuring how to achieve your goals that will excite you and create a life you enjoy living unlike surviving. When you know your ‘Why’ that’s when you find the courage to take the risks needed to get ahead and stay motivated when things have gone hay-wire.
I strongly suggest reading a book by Simon Sinek – ‘Start With Why.’ This book clearly depicts that once one knows their Why, nothing will stop them. It explains how successful people are all driven by a strong Why. Therefore, if you want to be happy and focused, identify yourself with your Why.
Next, ask yourself some self-discovery questions like, “Is this what I really want to achieve, what is my definition of success, what is my passion? If I were to do this everyday for next 10 years, would I do I still do it?” Asking yourself questions, is a good way to finding out your why. The word ‘Why’ itself possess a question. It also goes beyond asking yourself, you also need to know your innate strengths and tackle them as you come across these questions.
Are you brilliant in the details, naturally good in executing projects with a passion while others find it so tedious? Are you a naturally gifted communicator, technocrat, leader, or a problem solver? In fact, don’t ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive, then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who come alive. And that can only be realized when you know your Why.
There has be a lot of action and involvement once you know your Why. You will make progress and in no time, you will be enjoying what you are doing. Your Why will be on its way to being attained.
Always have time to write down your dreams, vision, goals, ideas, or anything that comes to your mind that makes you happy. This will help you realise your dreams, become more committed, help you deal with your past, and gain a sense of achievement too.
In a nutshell, when you know your why and the reason behind your actions, you can become unstoppable. Even though it requires time and self-discovery, but knowing why you do what you do is not to be lightly disregarded.
Your Why will keep you going on days you don’t want to.
